Howdie :3 I’m Hollis, a multidisciplinary creative with a passion for more things than I can count. I recently received my M.A. in Ecopsychology from Naropa. Through my process I began to explore the Jungian concept of the shadow through an ecological lens, resulting in the idea of Shadow Composting.

Originally the ideas around Shadow Composting opened me to a very intimate self exploration of psyche through the medium of black and white paintings on thrifted canvas. These paintings represent a communion with the inner self and all of her complexity and darkness, in an attempt to embody the inquiry asking “what is my mythology?”.

This self exploration initiated me into conceptualizing a kinship with the darkness. The process of Shadow Composting metamorphized into a societal exploration around humanity’s expression of the shadow. An exploration that has led me to…. trash.

& TRASHKIN

Currently I am exploring the idea of waste and how it shapes our identity and creativity. I am intrigued by the alchemical process of turning trash to treasure and how it may be a useful and accessible approach to healing deeper wounds of colonialism.

As of now, this process is being embodied by a creative journey of growing dumpster finds into a garden of sorts, and asking questions around our relationality with garbage.
